Mobile IP based Solutions in 4G

Fourth Generation (4G) is the next generation of wireless networks that will replace third Generation (3G) networks sometimes in future. 4G is intended to provide high speed, high capacity, low cost per bit, IP based services for video, data and Voice (VoIP).4G is all about an integrated, global network that’s based on an open system approach. At the moment we have several technologies each capable of performing some of the functions like broadband data access in mobile or nomadic environments, supporting voice traffic using voice over IP (VoIP) etc. But what we really need is a deployment of new technologies that allow merging, bridging and integrating all these separate systems into an information delivery system of the twenty first century. The emerging research 802.16 BWA technology WiMAX (World wide interoperability for Microwave Access) allows interoperability and combines the benefits that other wireless networking technologies offer individually and leads a path towards 4G and become the 4G wireless technology in the future. The 4G/WiMAX spectrum will be used for voice, video and data — all considered broadband wireless access (BWA) applications. This paper will evaluate the potential of WiMAX as 4G technology, provide a very strong comparison between WiMAX and Wi-Fi IP based technologies, deployment of various architectures like (i) Wi-Fi / WiMAX (Wi-Fi with WiMAX can be called as migration path to 4G when both are viewed as complementary to one another , (ii) Mobile WiMAX that can provide users with connectivity wherever they are and deliver the promise of 4G.
Wireless broadband technologies promise to make all kinds of information available anywhere, anytime, at a low cost to a large portion of the population. More user devices than ever are going wireless for mobility and flexibility. WiMAX is a 4G technology that’s fairly well accepted and will offer broadband data, voice & video services. WiMAX (research 802.16) with Wi-Fi (research 802.11) will allow operators to deliver high quality voice, video &data services on a metropolitan scale. While WiFi is able to provide high speed, localized, wireless Internet access, the emerging WiMAX standard is a wide area technology, supplying wireless coverage over an area of several kilometers. At the moment WiMAX technology will build upon Wi-Fi in a very complimentary way, expanding open standard based wireless networking for metropolitan-area outdoor mobility applications including voice over IP (VoIP) hence WiMAX with Wi-Fi can be called as a migration path to 4G . In the future Mobile WiMAX systems will deliver the promise of 4G, however, still some years to come. Section 2 gives a brief introduction about 4G, Section 3 provides the viability of WiMAX, Section 4 will focus on WiMAX vs. 4G, Section 5 gives the impact of similar technologies on WiMAX, Section 6 will provide a high comparison between WiMAX / Wi-Fi systems, In section 7 the VoIP services of WiMAX / Wi-Fi are discussed. Section 8 provides the architectural overview of different implementation models. Section 9 will provide valuable suggestions and section 10 conclusion.
4G is basically a wireless phone standard and have a life of its own. The original analog and digital cellular services were invented to cut the wire on landline phone service and give regular telephone service you could take with you. But the bandwidth they offer for adding data services is pretty meager, in the low Kbps region. First of all, this family is the wireless telephone family [1]. Then the wireless phone family started competing with the wireless Internet family. Now that a wireless/cell phone is not merely a cell phone, but also a PDA, a messaging system, a camera, an Internet browser, an email reader. This is the place where the whole “G” thing got started . That new generation of cell phone service has been dubbed 3G for 3rd generation. 3G has proven to be a tough generation to launch. The demand for greater bandwidth has spawned intermediate generations called 2.5G and even 2.75G. While 3G phones and services are just starting to come into their own the industry is developing triple play models, where voice, data and video get bundled called 3G technologies such as High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).
