low power mobile system

In mobile communication systems, low power capabilities and a low manufacturing cost are essential properties:
A low power consumption increases the battery life and autonomy while a low manufacturing cost is
necessary in a competitive environment.
A mobile phone integrates both low frequency functions such as speech encoding/decoding, radio channel
management and high frequency blocks to transmit the signals. Most digital parts are integrated in complementary
metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) due to low power consumption properties of this technology
which ensure a long battery life. However today the dominance of one technology is not as clear in high
frequency components of the transceiver as it was in the past. In the high frequency front-end, Gallium
Arsenide (GaAs) is often replaced by BiCMOS 1 in the frequency range [1-2 GHz] but several blocks were
also demonstrated in CMOS.
